Turn your text into bold pixel-block letters. Adjust the block size, colors and font, then export a crisp PNG.
PIXEL
Hello
像素字
Type anything and watch it turn into bold letters made of pixel blocks in real time. No design skills required.
Set the block size anywhere from 4 to 24. Small blocks look sharp and detailed, large blocks give that chunky 8-bit feel.
Pick any foreground and background colour, or switch to a transparent background to layer the result over posters, video and slides.
Choose a 1x, 2x or 4x export scale. The exported PNG keeps razor-sharp pixel edges and is ready for print or social media.
Besides downloading, you can copy the image with one click and paste it straight into a chat, document or design app.
Powered by the browser font engine, so Chinese, English, digits and emoji all convert into pixel text, including mixed text.
Type the text you want to convert. Chinese, English and multiple lines are all supported, or click an example to try it out.
Drag the pixel block size and detail threshold sliders to control how fine the result looks, then pick foreground, background and font.
The preview refreshes instantly. Switch between square pixels and dot pixels until the result looks right.
Click Export PNG to download a high-resolution image, or Copy image to paste it wherever you need it.
Make pixel avatars, banners and stickers and export them in one click
Produce title art and assets quickly for indie and 8-bit style games
Turn headings into pixel letters and layer them over any layout with a transparent background
Create eye-catching pixel slogans for product images, banners and detail pages
Use the output as a lettering source for pixel art, cross stitch and bead patterns
Apply it to stickers, business cards and t-shirts for a playful retro look
Pixel text, also called dot matrix text or pixel art lettering, is text rendered as a pattern of square colour blocks. It comes from the low-resolution displays of early computers and game consoles and has since become a popular retro visual style. This tool first draws your text onto a high-resolution canvas, then samples it on a grid to rebuild it as pixel blocks.
ASCII art builds big letters out of printable characters such as _ / \ | , so the result is plain text that only aligns in a monospace font. Pixel text converts the words into an image instead, so it looks identical on every device and font, and you can set the colours and a transparent background freely. Use the ASCII Art Generator for copyable character art, and this pixel text generator when you need a shareable image.
Pixel block size controls the sampling grid: smaller values give a denser grid and more detail, larger values make each pixel block more obvious and more retro. The detail threshold decides how full a cell must be before it lights up: a lower threshold makes strokes thicker and more continuous, a higher one makes them thinner and possibly broken. Adjusting the two together lets you fine-tune the look.
PNG is lossless and supports an alpha channel, so pixel edges stay razor sharp with no colour bleeding, and transparent backgrounds are possible. JPG is lossy and introduces colour noise and blur along pixel edges, which is why it is a poor choice for pixel graphics.
| Pixel block size | Look | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 4 - 6 px | Most detailed, closest to the original letterforms | Small type and longer slogans |
| 8 - 12 px | Balanced detail and pixel feel (recommended) | General headings, avatars, covers |
| 14 - 18 px | Obvious blocks, strongly retro | 8-bit game style, poster headlines |
| 20 - 24 px | Very chunky, maximum block feel | Minimal headlines, early logo concepts |
